Okay, so I’ve been wanting to add a little something extra to my kitchen, something to make it feel more, I don’t know, me. I’ve seen those cute signs with sayings, but I wanted something with a bit more meaning. Then it hit me: Bible verses! But not just any verses, ones that really connect with the whole cooking/eating/gathering vibe of a kitchen.
So, I started by brainstorming. I grabbed my notebook and jotted down a bunch of words that came to mind when I think about my kitchen: food, family, gathering, blessings, nourishment, gratitude… you get the idea. Then I started thinking about verses that matched those themes.
Finding the Right Verses
I spent a good hour just flipping through my Bible and searching online. There are so many good ones! It was actually kind of hard to narrow it down. I wanted something that felt welcoming and positive, but also reflected my faith. A few verses I love:
- “Taste and see that the Lord is good.” (Psalm 34:8) – Simple, short, and perfect for a kitchen!
- “Give us this day our daily bread.” (Matthew 6:11)- The prayer my mother teaches me.
- “He fills my life with good things.”(Psalm 103:5) – I feel grateful when I cook delicious food.
- “Share with the Lord’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality.”(Romans 12:13) – I love that when friend came and we eat togather.
Making It Happen
Then came the practical part. I decided to go the DIY route because, well, I like making things! I found some cute wooden plaques at the craft store, some paint, and some stencils. I could have used my Cricut machine, but I wanted a more rustic, hand-painted look.
First, I painted the plaques with a light, creamy color. Then, once they were dry, I used the stencils to carefully paint the verses onto the wood. I chose a dark brown paint for the letters to make them really stand out. It took a little patience, and I definitely messed up a few times (thank goodness for wet rags!), but I got there in the end.
After the paint dried, I added a coat of sealant to protect them from any kitchen splatters. Finally, I attached some little hooks to the back so I could hang them up.
The Finished Product
I’m so happy with how they turned out! I hung them up on the wall near my dining table, and they just add such a warm, inviting feel to the space. Every time I see them, I’m reminded of the blessings in my life and the importance of sharing good food and good company with the people I love. It’s a small thing, but it really makes my kitchen feel more like the heart of our home.
