Okay, so Thanksgiving is coming, and this year, I decided to go all out and try making gluten-free desserts. I’ve got a couple of friends who can’t have gluten, and I wanted them to enjoy the feast without any worries. It was a bit of a challenge, but hey, I was up for it!
Finding the Right Recipes
First things first, I needed some good recipes. I spent a good chunk of time searching online. There are tons of options, so I picked a few that seemed manageable and sounded delicious.

The Shopping Spree
Next up, the grocery store. I needed to get all sorts of gluten-free stuff, like almond flour, coconut flour, and xanthan gum (that was a new one for me!). Making sure I had all the ingredients was a bit like a scavenger hunt, but I managed to find everything.
Baking Time!
Okay, now for the fun part – actually making the desserts! I started with a pumpkin pie. I used a gluten-free pie crust recipe I found. It was a bit crumbly, but I pressed it into the pan, and it looked okay.
- Made the pumpkin filling, which was pretty standard.
- Poured it into the crust.
- Baked it until it was set.
The pie came out pretty good! The crust was a little different from a regular one, but the taste was great.
Next, I tackled some apple crisp. I found this recipe that used almond flour and oats for the topping. Mixing it all together, the topping was a little more moist than a normal crisp.
- Chopped the apples.
- Mixed a simple cinnamon-sugar mixture.
- Put apples into a baking dish.
- Sprinkled gluten-free topping.
- Baked at the same time as the pumpkin pie.
It turned out pretty delicious, if I do say so myself. Even I, a gluten-eater, enjoyed it!
The Taste Test
Of course, I had to taste-test everything. You know, for quality control! Both desserts were a hit, even with my non-gluten-free family members. Everyone wanted to know about my experience with creating these desserts, and were suprised when I told them. I felt pretty proud of myself, to be honest.
The Final Verdict
So, would I do it again? Definitely! It was a bit more work than usual, but seeing my friends’ faces when they could enjoy dessert without any problems was totally worth it. Plus, I learned a few new baking tricks. Gluten-free baking isn’t so scary after all! Now I have to come up with the full meal menu so that they can enjoy everything.
