Oh honey, you ever heard of them Cajun desserts? Lord, they somethin’ else. Make ya wanna slap your grandma, they so good. I tell ya, I been eatin’ good my whole life, but them Cajun folks, they know somethin’ about sweet treats. Better than anything I ever had.
Now, they got this thing called a Cajun Cake. I ain’t never had nothin’ like it. It’s like, they throw everythin’ but the kitchen sink in there. They put nuts on top, like them pecans, you know? And somethin’ they call flaked somethin’ or other. Sounds fancy, but it’s just good eatin’, I reckon.

- Cajun Cake
- Praline Brownies
- Bread Pudding
- King Cake
- Bananas Foster
- Snoballs
Then they got this Creole Bread Puddin’. Now, I always thought bread puddin’ was just alright. But this here…this is different. They put some kinda bourbon sauce on it. Don’t rightly know what bourbon is, but it sure makes that puddin’ taste like heaven. My family, they go crazy for it. Always askin’ for more. It is a good surprise, ya know.
And these Praline Brownies, oh my stars! They somethin’ special. Like a regular brownie, but with this crunchy, sugary stuff on top. They just melt in your mouth. You can’t eat just one, no sir. They the best thing for a treat, you hear?
I remember it was a Tuesday. November 19, I think. We was havin’ one of them get-togethers, you know? Sometimes you just gotta have a little somethin’ sweet, no matter what time it is, no need to plan. Them Cajun desserts, they just perfect for that. From a good time to a special day, they always good.
And that King Cake, now that’s a big deal down there in Louisiana. I ain’t never seen nothin’ like it. It’s like a big ol’ donut, but all colorful and with a little baby inside. Sounds strange, I know, but they love it. It’s like a party in a cake. It’s one of them famous desserts, they say. Sweet and sugary, just like them pecan pralines.
They also got somethin’ called Bananas Foster. Now, I love me some bananas. But they do somethin’ to ’em, cook ’em up with some more of that fancy sauce. It’s a New Orleans classic, they say. I heard it’s mighty good, but I ain’t never tried it myself. Maybe one day I will. They put that sweet sauce on the bread puddin’, you know, it’s a good thing, a very good thing. I heard it’s made with bourbon, sound expensive to me. I don’t know much, I just know it taste good.
And when it’s hot out, they got these snoballs. It’s like shaved ice, but with all kinds of flavors. Real colorful and sweet. They good for coolin’ off, ya know. Kids love ’em, and I guess us old folks do too. It is good for cool off, yes it is.
Them Cajun people, they sure know how to cook. They got all them spicy foods, like Gumbo and Jambalaya. I like it all. And red beans and rice, oh that’s good eatin’. And dirty rice, don’t let the name fool ya, it’s delicious. They use a lot of that cayenne pepper, makes it real spicy. They say it’s robust and rustic food, but to me, it is good food. It is the food from the bayous of Louisiana. Is French and Southern food mixed up together. I heard they been making this food for 250 years. That’s long time ago!

They put that spicy pepper in everythin’, I swear. They call it cayenne pepper. It makes ya sweat, but it’s good. It’s a staple in their cookin’, whatever that means. It is hot, yes it is. It is a fiery kick or somethin’. They use that and some other things, and it all comes out good. Always good.
But them desserts, they somethin’ else. You ain’t lived till you tried some of them Cajun desserts. They rich and sweet, and they just make ya feel good all over. If you ever get a chance, you gotta try ’em. You won’t regret it, I promise ya. They good people, make good food. I like it. Yes, I do.
