Okay, so, I tried making those fancy layered desserts today. You know, the ones that look super pretty in the store windows? Yeah, those. I thought, “How hard can it be?” Turns out, a bit harder than I expected, but still totally doable. And hey, it was a fun ride!
First off, I gathered all my stuff. I’m talking about the usual suspects: gelatin, some fruits I like—berries and mangoes, ’cause why not?—cream, sugar, and some biscuits for the base. I even got some of those clear plastic cups to show off the layers.

Layer 1: The Biscuit Base
- I started with the base. I crushed some digestive biscuits until they were all fine crumbs.
- Then, I mixed in some melted butter. The whole thing looked like wet sand, which I guess is what we’re going for.
- I pressed this mixture into the bottom of the cups. It was kind of therapeutic, patting them down into a neat, even layer.
Layer 2: Berry Jelly
- Next up, the berry jelly. I boiled some water and dissolved the gelatin in it.
- I threw in a bunch of frozen berries—raspberries and blueberries. I let them simmer until they were all soft and mushy.
- After straining out the seeds, I poured the berry mixture over the biscuit base in each cup.
- Then, into the fridge they went. I probably checked on them every five minutes, but it took about an hour for the jelly to set. Patience is not my strong suit, folks.
Layer 3: Mango Madness
- While the berry layer was chilling, I whizzed up some mango chunks in a blender until they were smooth.
- I prepared another batch of gelatin, this time mixing it with the mango puree.
- Once the berry layer was firm, I poured the mango mix on top. Back into the fridge they went.
Layer 4: Creamy Dreamy
- Last but not least, the creamy layer. I whipped up some heavy cream with a bit of sugar until it was all fluffy and formed nice peaks.
- I spooned this on top of the mango layer, making sure not to mix them up. It was a delicate operation, let me tell you.
After another hour or so in the fridge, they were ready. I garnished the tops with a few fresh berries and a sprig of mint, just to be extra. And there you have it—my homemade fancy layered desserts. They looked pretty darn good, if I do say so myself. And the taste? Let’s just say there weren’t any leftovers.
It was a bit of a process, I won’t lie. But totally worth it. Plus, now I can say I’ve made those fancy desserts. It is not that hard as you think, go and try it yourself! I will try some new flavors next time. Maybe chocolate and orange? Or something with coconut? The possibilities are endless, my friends. Stay tuned for more kitchen adventures, folks!
