Alright, let’s chew the fat about this east and west food thing, you know, what them city folks call “cuisine.” I ain’t no fancy chef or nothin’, just a plain old woman who’s been cookin’ for a long, long time. I’ve seen a thing or two in the kitchen, let me tell ya.
East grub, West grub – what’s the big deal?
Now, from what I gather, East food, like what them folks in China and Japan eat, it’s all about balance. They like things to be just so, you know? A little bit of this, a little bit of that. It’s like a big ol’ family meal, everyone sharin’ and pickin’ from the same dishes. Kinda nice, if you ask me. They use all sorts of stuff too, things I ain’t even heard of half the time. But it always smells good, that’s for sure.
- East Food: Lots of sharing, all about balance, uses weird stuff.
- West Food: Everyone gets their own plate, big hunks of meat, lots of different ways to cook.
West food, on the other hand, that’s like what you see in them American movies. Big ol’ steaks, piles of potatoes, everyone gets their own plate. No sharin’ there! They got all sorts of fancy ways to cook too, fryin’, bakin’, grillin’ – you name it, they do it. And don’t even get me started on the desserts! Cakes as big as your head, all covered in sugary stuff. Makes my teeth hurt just thinkin’ about it.
Same stuff, cooked different.

You know what’s funny though? Sometimes they use the same stuff, but cook it up totally different. Like take rice, for example. East folks, they steam it, make it all sticky and fluffy. West folks, sometimes they boil it, sometimes they fry it, sometimes they even put sugar in it and call it pudding! Goes to show, there’s more than one way to skin a cat, or cook a rice, I guess.
Them Germans, they had it rough.
I heard tell that back when Germany was split in two, the East side didn’t have much food. They had to make do with what they had, so their meals were pretty simple. The West side, they had all the fancy stuff. Guess that shows you how food can be different even in the same country, just depends on what you got and how you use it.
It’s all about the taste, ain’t it?
At the end of the day, I reckon it don’t matter if it’s East or West, fancy or plain. What matters is if it tastes good and fills your belly. I’ve had some mighty fine meals that didn’t cost a whole lot, and I’ve had some fancy stuff that tasted like dirt. It’s all about the cookin’, you see. If someone puts their heart into it, it’ll taste good, no matter where it comes from.

Don’t be afraid to try somethin’ new.
Now, I know some folks get stuck in their ways, only eatin’ what they know. But I say, don’t be afraid to try somethin’ new! You might just find a new favorite dish. I tried that sushi stuff once, all that raw fish and seaweed. Thought it was gonna be awful, but it was actually pretty darn good! Surprised myself, I did. So go on, be adventurous! You never know what you might find.
So, East or West, which is better?
Well, I ain’t gonna tell you which is better, cause it’s all a matter of taste. But I will say this: both East and West food got their good points and their bad points. East food is healthy and balanced, but sometimes it can be a little bland. West food is hearty and flavorful, but sometimes it can be a little too rich. It’s all about findin’ what you like and enjoyin’ it, that’s what I say.
And that’s all I gotta say about that. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I gotta go start supper. Got a hankerin’ for some good ol’ fried chicken tonight. That’s West food, I guess, but it sure is tasty!
