Okay, so I’ve been wanting to do something special with my grandma’s handwritten recipes for, like, ever. I finally got around to it, and I’m so excited with how it turned out! I decided to put them on kitchen towels – personalized kitchen towels, with the actual recipes!
Getting Started
First, I gathered all the recipes. This took a bit of digging, going through old recipe boxes and notebooks. Some were on these super old, faded index cards, others were in her beautiful cursive handwriting in a little journal. I selected a few of my favorites – her apple pie, her amazing chocolate chip cookies, and her classic Sunday roast recipe.

Prepping the Recipes
Next, I needed to get these recipes ready to transfer. I carefully scanned each one. For the really faded ones, I gently cleaned them up a bit beforehand, just wiping away any dust or smudges. I didn’t want to mess with them too much, though, because I loved that aged, vintage look.
Choosing the Towels
Then came the fun part – picking out the towels! I wanted something that felt nice and would hold up well, but also something that would look good with the recipes. I went with some plain, white linen towels. I figured the white would really make the handwriting pop.
The Transfer Process
- I printed the scanned recipes onto transfer paper. Make sure you get the right kind for your fabric!
- I have to say that read the instruction on the transfer paper carefully to print correct side.
- Then, I carefully ironed the transfer paper onto the towels, following the instructions on the paper’s packaging. This part was a little nerve-wracking, ngl, but I took my time and it worked out perfectly.
- I made sure the iron was hot enough, but not too hot, and I used firm, even pressure.
The Big Reveal!
After letting the towels cool completely, I carefully peeled off the transfer paper, and… wow! The recipes looked amazing! They were clear, legible, and had that perfect touch of vintage charm. Seriously, they look like they came straight out of a fancy home goods store, but with way more sentimental value.
I’m so happy with how these personalized kitchen towels turned out. They’re a perfect way to keep my grandma’s recipes alive and a beautiful addition to my kitchen. I’m even thinking of making a few more as gifts! It such a simple and warm gift!
