Okay, so today I’m gonna share how I made a goose breast in my trusty crock pot. This wasn’t my first time cooking goose, but it was the first time I tried it this way. Gotta say, it turned out pretty darn good!
Getting Started
First things first, I got my hands on a couple of decent-sized goose breasts. I rinsed them under cold water and patted them dry with some paper towels. Then, it was time to season them up. I just used some basic stuff I had in the pantry: salt, pepper, garlic powder, and a bit of paprika for a little smoky flavor. I rubbed that all over the breasts, making sure to get every nook and cranny.

Prepping the Crock Pot
Next, I grabbed my crock pot. I didn’t want the goose to stick to the bottom, so I put a little bit of olive oil in there, just enough to coat the surface. You could probably use some butter or another type of oil if you prefer.
The Cooking Process
- I placed the seasoned goose breasts in the crock pot. Some folks say to prick the skin to help render the fat, but I didn’t bother with that this time.
- Now, for the liquid. I poured in about a cup of chicken broth. You could use beef broth or even some red wine if you’re feeling fancy. This helps keep the goose moist and adds some extra flavor.
- I put the lid on the crock pot, set it to low, and let it do its thing. I cooked it for about 8 hours. I know some recipes say to go for 9 hours, but I found that 8 was plenty for these breasts.
Checking for Doneness
After 8 hours, I checked the goose. It should be tender and easily pierced with a fork. If it’s still tough, you might need to cook it a bit longer. Mine was perfect, though. The meat was juicy and falling apart.
Serving It Up
Once it was done, I took the goose breasts out of the crock pot and let them rest for a few minutes. This helps the juices redistribute, making the meat even more tender. Then, I sliced them up and served them with some roasted veggies and mashed potatoes. It was a hearty and delicious meal, and the goose was definitely the star of the show.
One thing I learned is that some people like to brine their goose overnight in saltwater to reduce the gamey flavor. I didn’t do that this time, but I might try it next time just to see how it changes the taste. Anyway, using the crock pot made cooking the goose breast super easy, and the results were fantastic. I’ll definitely be doing this again!
