Okay, so I’ve always loved the look of herbs hanging in the kitchen. It just feels so rustic and, you know, chef-y. Plus, fresh herbs are way better than dried, right? So, I finally decided to do it – make my own little hanging herb garden.

First, I gathered my supplies. This was pretty basic:

Hanging Herbs Kitchen: Clever Storage and Growing Tips
  • Some fresh herbs (I went with rosemary, thyme, and oregano because those are what I use most).
  • Twine or string – something sturdy.
  • Scissors.
  • A hook or something to hang them from (I used an existing hook in my kitchen ceiling).

Getting Started

I started by rinsing the herbs under cool water and patting them dry with a paper towel. You want to get any dirt or, you know, little bugs off.

Then, I grouped the herbs into small bunches. I didn’t want them too thick, because they need good airflow to dry properly. I made sure to vary the heights, so it looks more natural, not all uniform and stuff.

Tying it Up

Next, I took my twine and tied it securely around the base of each bunch. I left a long tail of twine on each one, because that’s what I’d use to hang them.

I double-knotted everything, just to be sure. I didn’t want my herbs crashing down in the middle of the night!

Hanging Around

Finally, I found my hook and hung each bunch, spacing them out a bit. I wanted them to get plenty of air circulation, so they wouldn’t get moldy.

And that’s it! Seriously, it was so easy. Now I have this awesome-looking (and smelling!) herb display in my kitchen. They’re drying nicely, and I can just snip off what I need when I’m cooking. It’s way more convenient than digging through those little jars of dried herbs, and it adds such a cool, homey touch to the kitchen. I’m really proud of the way it turned out, and it’s been super practical too.
