Okay, so I’ve been thinking a lot about making desserts for older folks lately. You know, the kind that aren’t too sweet, easy to chew, and maybe even a little bit good for you. It’s a bit of a challenge, but I wanted to give it a shot. I started by looking through my old cookbooks. I found a couple of recipes that seemed promising.
Making Soft Fruit Tarts
First, I tried making some soft fruit tarts.

- I picked up some ripe peaches and berries from the store, thinking they’d be perfect.
- Then, I whipped up a simple crust using just flour, butter, and a bit of sugar. Nothing too fancy.
- I rolled out the dough and cut it into small circles, then placed each one into a muffin tin.
- After that, I sliced the peaches and arranged them with the berries on top of the dough.
- I baked them until they were golden brown, and the fruit was all soft and bubbly.
They turned out pretty good, although the crust was a little crumbly.
Cooking Rice Pudding
Next, I decided to make a rice pudding.
- I cooked some rice with milk, sugar, and a dash of cinnamon.
- I stirred it on the stove until it got nice and thick.
- Then I added some raisins and a bit of vanilla extract for extra flavor.
It was a hit! Creamy, not too sweet, and the raisins added a nice touch.
Baking Banana Bread
Lastly, I baked a banana bread. I know, it’s classic, but I wanted to see if I could make it a bit healthier.
- I mashed up some overripe bananas, the really brown ones that nobody wants to eat.
- I mixed them with flour, eggs, a little bit of sugar, and some chopped walnuts.
- Instead of regular sugar, I used a bit of honey and some mashed dates.
- I also threw in some flaxseed meal, just to sneak in some extra fiber.
- Then, I poured the batter into a loaf pan and baked it until a toothpick came out clean.
It rose beautifully and smelled amazing. It was moist, flavorful, and not overly sweet. I think the dates and honey really did the trick.
So, that’s what I’ve been up to in the kitchen. It’s been fun experimenting and trying to come up with desserts that are both tasty and suitable for older adults. I’m no expert, but I enjoyed the process, and I think the results were pretty decent. Plus, it’s always nice to have some homemade treats to share with loved ones. I might try making some sugar-free cookies next. We’ll see how that goes!
