Okay, here’s my blog post about figuring out the ingredients in Hunt’s ketchup:
So, I got this weird craving the other day, right? Not just for ketchup, but specifically for Hunt’s. Don’t ask me why, it just hit me. And then I started thinking, “What’s actually in this stuff?” I mean, I eat it all the time, but have I ever really looked at the ingredients? Nope. Time to change that.

First things first, I grabbed the bottle from the fridge. You know, the classic red one. I flipped it around to the back, squinting at that tiny little print. They really don’t make it easy to read, do they?
The Hunt’s Ketchup Investigation
Okay, here’s what I found, in the order they listed them:
- Tomato Concentrate: This made sense. It’s ketchup, after all. I guess they cook down a TON of tomatoes to get this concentrated paste.
- High Fructose Corn Syrup: Ugh. Yeah, I knew this was probably in there. It’s in everything, it seems. Not thrilled, but not surprised.
- Distilled Vinegar: Okay, gives it that tang, I guess. Makes sense.
- Corn Syrup: Wait, MORE corn syrup? Seriously? So, they have the high fructose stuff AND regular corn syrup? Seems a little excessive, but okay…
- Salt: Of course. Gotta have salt.
- Less than 2% of: Onion Powder, Garlic Powder, Natural Flavors: Aha! The “secret” ingredients! I wondered what those “natural flavors” were. Probably some combination of spices to give it that specific Hunt’s taste.
So, there you have it. My deep dive into Hunt’s ketchup ingredients. I started with a random craving, and ended up staring at the back of a bottle for way longer than I expected. Honestly, seeing “high fructose corn syrup” and then “corn syrup” right after each other was a little bit of a bummer. But hey, at least I know what I’m eating now. I performed a taste test, and they were right.
I may try to see some other brands to compare it.
