Okay, so I wanted to figure out what’s actually in Diet Pepsi. You see it everywhere, and I’ve been drinking it for a while, so I figured it was time to really look into it.
First, I grabbed a can of Diet Pepsi from my fridge. I started by looking at the nutrition label. You know, the usual stuff – calories, fat, etc. But what I really wanted to know were the ingredients. So I started to read the ingredients list on the can.

The Ingredients
- Carbonated Water: This is pretty much expected, it’s the bubbly part that makes it a soda.
- Caramel Color: Probably for that classic dark soda look.
- Phosphoric Acid: I’ve heard about this one before, but wasn’t completely sure what it is for. I think it maybe has to do with the taste.
- Aspartame: This is the artificial sweetener. It’s how Diet Pepsi can be zero calories.
I then decided to do some more research online, on my phone. I searched for “Diet Pepsi ingredients” and looked at some websites. I found many discussions on those ingredients. The most important one for me was aspartame, since it was the most unknown to me.
I discovered that aspartame is a low-calorie sweetener that’s about 200 times sweeter than sugar. That’s why they don’t need to use much of it. The general consensus is that it is safe. Now I finally knew what’s in my Diet Pepsi, and I’ll probably keep drinking it. It’s been a good alternative to regular soda for me.
This was a simple experiment, but I feel like I learned something new today!
