Okay, so, I wanted to try my hand at making some Jamaican desserts. I’ve always loved the flavors of Jamaican cuisine, and I figured their sweets must be just as amazing.
First, I looked up a few recipes online. There are so many options, like gizzada, grater cake, toto, and plantain tarts. I finally decided to go with something called “sweet potato pudding” because, well, I like sweet potatoes.

Sweet Potato Pudding
I gathered all the ingredients: sweet potatoes (obviously), coconut milk, brown sugar, some spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, and a few other things. The recipe seemed pretty straightforward.
The first step was to boil the sweet potatoes until they were soft. I did that, and then I mashed them up real good. It was a bit of a workout, but hey, gotta earn your dessert, right?
Next, I mixed in the coconut milk, brown sugar, and all those yummy spices. I also added some raisins and a little bit of rum because why not? It’s supposed to be a Jamaican dessert, after all.
Then, I poured the whole mixture into a baking dish. It already smelled amazing, all warm and sweet and spicy. I popped it in the oven and waited. And waited. Baking always feels like it takes forever, especially when you’re hungry.
Finally, the timer went off! I took the pudding out of the oven, and it looked so good – golden brown and bubbly on top. I let it cool for a bit, which was torture, I’m not gonna lie.
- Taste Test: When I finally took a bite, oh my goodness. It was incredible!
- Texture: So soft and creamy, with just the right amount of sweetness and spice.
- Flavor: The raisins and rum added a nice little kick.
I was so proud of myself! It actually turned out pretty darn good for a first try. I will definitely be making this again. And who knows, maybe next time I’ll try another Jamaican dessert. Gizzada, I’m coming for you!
This whole experience just goes to show, you never know what you can do until you try. So go ahead, get in the kitchen, and bake something new! You might just surprise yourself. And even if it doesn’t turn out perfect, it’s all part of the fun, right?

But seriously, this sweet potato pudding was a total win. So good!
