Okay, here’s my personal take on creating a kitchen cleaning schedule, presented as a blog post:
Alright, folks, let’s talk kitchen cleaning. I used to dread it, seriously. My kitchen would get out of control, and then I’d spend a whole Saturday scrubbing and cursing. Not fun. I knew I needed a system, something to keep me on track so things never got that bad again.

So, I started experimenting. First, I just tried winging it – “I’ll clean when it looks dirty!” Yeah, that didn’t work. I needed structure, something visual. I grabbed a piece of paper and a pen – nothing fancy – and started brainstorming.
My First Attempt: The “Everything, Everyday” List
My initial thought was to list EVERYTHING. You know, wipe down counters, clean the sink, sweep the floor, mop, clean the microwave, the oven, the fridge… the whole nine yards. I wrote it all down, thinking I’d tackle it all every single day. Ambitious, right? And totally unrealistic.
I lasted about two days. It was exhausting, and frankly, unnecessary. I realized some things only needed cleaning once a week, or even once a month.
The Breakdown: Daily, Weekly, Monthly
This is where the magic happened. I started categorizing tasks. I created three lists:
- Daily: These were the quick, everyday things. Wiping down the counters and stovetop after cooking, washing dishes (or loading the dishwasher – let’s be honest), and a quick sweep of the floor.
- Weekly: This included stuff like mopping the floor, cleaning the microwave and the outside of the fridge, and giving the sink a good scrub.
- Monthly: The deep-cleaning stuff. Cleaning the oven, wiping down the inside of the fridge, organizing the pantry, and cleaning out any old food.
Putting it into Action
Once I had my categorized lists, I needed a way to keep myself accountable. Initially, I just printed it out and stuck it on the fridge. That worked okay, but I’d often “forget” to look at it. My current new way is just write it by hand.
Daily:
- Wipe Counters & Stovetop
- Wash Dishes/Load Dishwasher
- Quick Floor Sweep
Weekly:

- Mop Floor
- Clean Microwave
- Clean Fridge Exterior
- Scrub Sink
Monthly:
- Clean Oven
- Clean Fridge Interior
- Organize Pantry
- Discard Old Food
It’s not perfect, and I still have days where I fall behind. But overall, this system has been a game-changer. My kitchen stays reasonably clean, and I’m not spending entire weekends on cleaning marathons. It’s all about finding a rhythm that works for you and your life.
