Today, I wanted to talk about something super important: kitchen safety. I’ve been doing a lot of cooking lately, and let me tell you, I’ve had my fair share of close calls. So, I figured it’s time to get serious about staying safe in the kitchen.
Start Clean
First things first, I started by giving my kitchen a good scrub down. I wiped down all the counters, cleaned the sink, and made sure everything was spotless. A clean kitchen is a safe kitchen, right?

Dealing with Knives
Next, I tackled my knives. I used to just toss them in a drawer, but not anymore! I sharpened them up because, believe it or not, sharp knives are safer than dull ones. Then, I put them in a knife block to keep them organized and out of harm’s way.
Cooking on the Stove
Cooking on the stove is where things can get a bit tricky. I always double-check that the handles of my pots and pans are turned inwards, away from the edge of the stove. This way, I won’t accidentally knock them over. And I make sure to use oven mitts when handling anything hot. No more burnt fingers for me!
- Wiped down counters
- Cleaned the sink
- Sharpened knives
- Checked pan handles
- Used oven mitts
Keep an Eye on Things
One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to never leave cooking food unattended. It’s so easy to get distracted, but a lot can happen in just a few seconds. I set timers to remind me to check on things, and I try to stay in the kitchen as much as possible while cooking.
Food Safety
Of course, no kitchen safety routine would be complete without thinking about food safety. I always wash my hands before and after handling food, and I use separate cutting boards for raw meat and veggies to avoid cross-contamination. And I make sure to cook everything to the right temperature. Food poisoning is definitely not on my menu!
All Done
So, there you have it! That’s how I went about making my kitchen a safer place. It might seem like a lot of steps, but it’s all about building good habits. Trust me, a little effort goes a long way when it comes to avoiding accidents. Now, I can cook with confidence, knowing that I’m doing everything I can to stay safe. And hopefully, you can too!
