Hey there, you know, I’ve been thinkin’ about these coffee machines lately, the ones that make that fancy espresso. KitchenAid Nespresso, they call it. Never had one myself, always just boiled water in a kettle, but my neighbor, she got one. Said it’s the bee’s knees.

So, I asked her, how’s it work? She goes on about “pods” and “six size settings.” Pods, I reckon, are like those little tea bags, but for coffee. And six sizes? Sounds like a lot of fuss to me. I just pour my coffee in a cup, add some sugar, done deal. But she says it makes the coffee taste “rich.” Rich, huh? Like a rich fella? Don’t know what that means for coffee.
- Fresh start, she says, is important. Well, I always use fresh water, so I guess I got that covered.
- Then she talks about it bein’ “well made” with all the “features.” Features? What’s that supposed to mean? Does it sing and dance too? I just need somethin’ that makes coffee, not somethin’ with fancy buttons and whatnot.
And she says it’s got an “easy override feature.” Override? Sounds like you’re takin’ over somethin’. Like drivin’ a tractor without permission. Why’s it gotta be so complicated? Just push a button and get your coffee, ain’t that easy enough?
She also says it’s “mess-free.” Well, that’s somethin’ I can appreciate. I hate it when coffee grounds get everywhere. Makes a right mess, and then you gotta clean it up. So if this thing keeps it tidy, that’s a plus in my book.
But then she mentioned it needs to be plugged into a “grounded outlet.” What’s a grounded outlet? Is that different from a regular outlet? Sounds like more trouble than it’s worth. And if it still don’t work, you gotta check the “fuse” or “circuit breaker.” More fancy words. Why can’t they just say “check the plug” or somethin’ simple?
And this pod thing, you only get “one shot per capsule.” One shot? Is that enough? What if you want more? Do you gotta use another pod? Seems wasteful to me. I just use a spoonful of coffee and be done with it.

I don’t know, seems like a lot of hoops to jump through just for a cup of coffee. But maybe I’m just old-fashioned. Maybe these newfangled machines are really somethin’ special. Maybe they do make the coffee taste “rich.” I might have to try a cup from my neighbor’s machine one day, just to see what all the fuss is about.
But until then, I’ll stick to my kettle and spoon. It’s worked for me all these years, and it ain’t let me down yet. Simple and reliable, that’s what I like.
