Okay, so I got this cookbook, right? It’s all about Middle Eastern food, which I’ve always been curious about. The book is called “Middle Eastern Cuisine Cookbook,” pretty straightforward. I’ve always loved the smell of Middle Eastern food, the spices and all, but never really knew how to make it myself. So I thought, why not give it a shot?
First thing I did was flip through the pages. I mean, who doesn’t do that with a new cookbook? It’s got, like, 100 recipes. That’s a lot! I was looking for something simple to start with, you know, just to dip my toes in the water. The book talks a lot about fresh herbs, spices, and using lots of yogurt, which sounds delicious.

I finally settled on this one recipe for a simple yogurt dip. It seemed easy enough – just yogurt, some herbs, and spices. The book, I think it’s by someone named Tess Mallos, it’s supposed to be good for beginners. It says it has “easy to follow steps.” So, I grabbed all the ingredients from my local store. Finding the right spices was a bit of a treasure hunt, I won’t lie.
Then, I started following the recipe. Mixing the yogurt with the chopped herbs, adding in the spices. It was actually kind of fun. I was a bit nervous, not gonna lie, hoping I wouldn’t mess it up. But the instructions were clear, so I just followed along.
- Gather all ingredients (yogurt, herbs, spices).
- Chop herbs finely.
- Combine yogurt, herbs, and spices in a bowl.
- Mix well.
- Chill in the fridge for a bit. (I think this helps the flavors blend or something.)
And guess what? It turned out pretty good! I mean, for a first try, I was impressed. I served it with some pita bread I got from the store. My family tried it, and they actually liked it! Success!
What I Learned
This whole cooking experiment taught me a few things. One, Middle Eastern cooking isn’t as scary as I thought. Two, fresh herbs and spices make a HUGE difference. And three, following a recipe step-by-step really does work. It’s a pretty decent cookbook, especially if you’re just starting out with Middle Eastern cuisine. I’m definitely going to try more recipes from this book. Maybe next time I’ll be brave and try making one of those meat dishes. We’ll see!
