So, I decided to get into this whole “alcohol malt beverages” thing. I’d seen some stuff online and, honestly, I was curious. It all started with a simple question: what even is a malt beverage?
First, I tried to understand the basics. Not gonna lie, it was a bit confusing at first. Lots of different types, with fancy names.

My Confusing Research
- Reading Labels: I went to the store and just…stared at the labels. Seriously, for like 20 minutes. So many words I didn’t understand.
- Asking Around: I even asked a store clerk, but that ended with more questions than answers. He kept saying, “It depends.” Helpful.
After that initial confusion, I decided I needed a more hands-on approach. So, I went and bought a couple of different kinds. Nothing too crazy, just some basic stuff to get a feel for it.
I set up, you know, what I thought a taste test should look like. Some small glasses, water to, like, clean my mouth out between sips. It was pretty basic, but I felt all official.
I started with something that had a fruity label. Figured that would be easy. It smelled…okay. Kind of sweet, but also a little weird. The taste? Not what I expected. More like a sugary soda than anything else.
Then I moved on to one that looked darker. This one smelled stronger, more like, I dunno, beer? The taste was definitely different. Less sweet, more…bitter? I can’t say I loved it, but it was interesting.
After each one, I wrote down some notes. Just, like, what I thought about the smell, the taste, and if I’d ever drink it again. Most of my notes were just question marks and “meh.”
Honestly, the whole experience was a bit of a letdown. It wasn’t bad, just…not as exciting as I thought it would be. I realized that maybe this whole “malt beverage” thing just isn’t for me. And that’s okay! At least I can say I tried, right?
I ended up giving the rest away to a neighbor. He seemed happy, so at least they didn’t go to waste. My big takeaway? Sometimes, things are just…okay. Not amazing, not terrible, just…okay.
