Okay, so I’ve been seeing these adorable mini cast iron skillets everywhere, and I finally caved. I grabbed a couple from the store, thinking they’d be perfect for individual desserts or, like, cute little frittatas. My first thought was, “These are gonna be so Instagrammable!”
Getting Started
First, I washed them really well. You know, gotta get rid of any factory dust or whatever. Then, I seasoned them. This part was a little intimidating, but I just followed a simple guide I found online. Basically, you rub them with oil – I used vegetable oil – and bake them in the oven for an hour. It makes them non-stick, which is super important.

First Attempt: Brownies!
My first experiment was brownies. I figured, who can mess up brownies? I whipped up a basic brownie batter from a box mix (don’t judge, I was keeping it simple!). Then, I greased the mini skillets with a little butter and poured in the batter. I only filled them about halfway, because I didn’t want them to overflow.
I popped them in the oven at 350°F (175°C) for about 20 minutes. I checked them with a toothpick, and when it came out clean, I knew they were done.
The Results
- Presentation: 10/10. Seriously, these little brownies looked SO cute. Like, straight out of a fancy restaurant.
- Taste: Delicious! The cast iron gave them a slightly crispy edge, which I loved.
- Cleanup: Pretty easy. I just soaked them in hot water for a bit, then scrubbed them with a sponge. No sticking!
Next Steps
I’m already brainstorming my next mini skillet adventure. I’m thinking maybe individual shepherd’s pies, or maybe some mini fruit crumbles. The possibilities are endless! These little things are so versatile, and they make even simple dishes feel special. Definitely recommend giving them a try!
