Okay, so today I decided to get serious about how things are run in my kitchen. It’s always been a bit chaotic, you know, with everyone kind of doing their own thing. So, I figured it was time to lay down some ground rules – “Rules and Regulations in the Kitchen,” I called it. Sounds official, huh?
Getting Started
First, I grabbed a notepad and pen. Gotta write this stuff down, otherwise, it’s just a bunch of empty threats, right? I started by thinking about the biggest problems in my kitchen. The stuff that drives me nuts.

The Big No-Nos
- Dirty Dishes: This was top of the list. I wrote down in big, bold letters: “NO DIRTY DISHES LEFT IN THE SINK.” Seriously, it’s like a five-second job to rinse a plate.
- Counter Chaos: Next up, the counters. They’re always covered in crumbs, spills, and who-knows-what-else. So, I added: “WIPE DOWN COUNTERS AFTER USE.” Seems simple enough, but you’d be surprised.
- Food Fights: Okay, not literal fights, but you get the idea. Expired food lurking in the fridge. I decided on a weekly fridge clean-out. “CHECK EXPIRATION DATES – FRIDAYS ARE FRIDGE DAY.”
- The Mystery of the Missing Utensils. Where do all the spoons go? There is a rule to put them back into the utensil drawer after cleaning.
Putting it into Action
Then, I taped the rules to the fridge, nice and visible. I even did a little “family meeting” (which was mostly me talking and everyone else rolling their eyes).
I spent the rest of the day trying to lead by example. Every time I used a dish, I washed it immediately. I wiped down the counters after making a sandwich. I even tackled the fridge, throwing out some questionable leftovers.
The Results (So Far…)
It’s only been a day, so it’s too early to declare victory. But, I have to say, the kitchen does look a bit tidier. The sink is gloriously empty, and the counters are surprisingly crumb-free. We’ll see how long it lasts, but I’m feeling optimistic. Maybe, just maybe, these rules will actually stick.
It is a great process by pratically doing this.
