I saw a sign the other day that said “no food or beverages,” and it got me thinking about how often we see these kinds of signs around. They’re everywhere, right? So, I decided to make my own, just for fun, and to see how people react to it.
First, I needed to get some materials. I grabbed a piece of cardboard from an old box and found a black marker. Pretty simple stuff. Then, I started thinking about how to design the sign. I wanted it to be clear and easy to understand, but also a bit eye-catching.

I ended up drawing a big circle with a line through it, the universal “no” symbol. Inside the circle, I drew a simple picture of a burger and a soda cup. I figured those would be the most common things people would try to bring in. Underneath the symbol, I wrote the words “NO FOOD OR BEVERAGES” in big, bold letters.
Once the sign was finished, I decided to test it out. I taped it to the door of my home office, where I often work. Then, I waited to see what would happen when my family came in.
- My wife walked in first, saw the sign, and just laughed. She knows I like to do these kinds of things, so she wasn’t surprised.
- My kid, on the other hand, tried to sneak in with a bag of chips. I had to remind him about the sign. He pouted a bit but then put the chips away.
It was a fun little experiment. I think it shows how we often just follow signs without thinking too much about them. It also showed me that making your own signs can be a fun way to communicate with people and get a reaction out of them.
What I learned:
Making signs is easy and can be a fun way to express yourself. People generally follow signs, even silly ones. Also, it reminded me that clear communication is important, whether you’re making a sign or just talking to someone. And, of course, don’t forget to keep an eye on those sneaky snackers in your house!
This was a simple and enjoyable project. I’m thinking of making more signs in the future, maybe with different rules or messages. It’s a great way to add a little bit of humor and creativity to everyday life.
