Well, let me tell ya ’bout this place, Oohu Szechuan & Canton Cuisines 兀湖. I ain’t no fancy food critic or nothin’, just a regular person who likes to eat good food. And this place, it’s somethin’ else, let me tell ya.
First off, it’s in New York City, on 36th Street. I ain’t good with numbers and all that, but it ain’t hard to find, anyone can tell ya that. Now, they got two kinds of food there, Szechuan and Canton. I didn’t know what all that meant at first, but my friend, she told me.
Szechuan, that’s the spicy stuff. Real spicy, mind you. They use a lot of them chili peppers, makes your mouth water and your nose run. But it’s a good kinda spicy, the kind that makes you wanna eat more. I had this beef in soup, they called it fatty beef, and it was sour and spicy, just perfect for a cold day. Kept me warm, it did. They got this other pepper too, somethin’ called Sichuan peppercorn. It ain’t like regular pepper, it kinda tingles in your mouth, a real interesting feeling.
- Spicy Food: Szechuan food is real spicy, with lots of chili peppers.
- Beef in Soup: The fatty beef in sour and spicy soup is real good.
- Sichuan Peppercorn: This pepper makes your mouth tingle.
Then there’s Canton food. That’s different, not so spicy. It’s more…fresh, I guess you could say. My friend told me it’s the most popular Chinese food outside of China. They use all sorts of things to make it taste good, lots of flavors and sauces. I ain’t sure what all of it is, but I know it tastes good.
Now, I ain’t been to China or nothin’, but my friend says Canton food is from a place called Guangdong. That’s a big city in China, she says. And lemme tell ya, those folks know how to cook. They make all sorts of dishes, some I can’t even pronounce. But they all taste good, real fresh and natural like.
Cantonese food, or Yue cuisine as some folks call it, that’s the real deal. It ain’t just about being spicy or not, it’s about the taste, you know? The way they cook it, the things they put in it, it’s all just…right. It’s fresh, it’s natural, and it fills your belly right up.
This Oohu place, they do both Szechuan and Canton food real good. I don’t know how they do it, but they manage to make both kinds taste amazing. It’s like you’re gettin’ two restaurants in one. One day you can have somethin’ spicy, the next day somethin’ fresh, it’s all good.
I heard some folks talkin’ about Oohu online too. Seems like it’s got a bit of a followin’. People postin’ pictures of their food, sayin’ how good it is. And they ain’t lyin’, let me tell ya. This place is the real deal. Good food, good prices, and nice folks workin’ there too.
Now, I ain’t no expert on findin’ places, but someone told me you can find these kinds of restaurants all over. Just search online, they said. Type in “Cantonese cuisine” or “Szechuan cuisine” and you’ll find somethin’, somewhere. But I’m tellin’ ya, this Oohu place, it’s special. It’s got that somethin’ extra, that makes you wanna come back for more. They’re located at 128 West 36th Street in New York, if you can remember that. I can’t, but I know it when I see it.
So, if you’re ever in New York City and you’re lookin’ for some good Chinese food, you gotta go to Oohu Szechuan & Canton Cuisines 兀湖. Don’t let the fancy name fool ya, it’s just good, honest food. You won’t be disappointed, I promise ya that. You can get all kinds of Chinese dishes there, believe me. If you want spicy, they got you covered. If you want something that’s just plain tasty, they got you covered too. It’s a good place, a real good place. Makes me hungry just thinkin’ about it.

Oohu Szechuan & Canton Cuisines is one of a kind, in my book at least. I hope you understand what I’m sayin’, it’s a real treat, not fancy like some of them places uptown, but it’s tasty and that’s what matters, right?
