Today, I wanted to share my little adventure with parve desserts. For those who don’t know, parve means the food is neither dairy nor meat, which is a big deal in kosher cooking. So, I got this wild idea to make some desserts that fit the bill, and let me tell you, it was a ride!
Getting Started
First off, I dived into finding some recipes. I found a bunch of them online. There’s this one site, I think it was called Jamie Geller or something, that had a ton of ideas. I was like a kid in a candy store, scrolling through all those options!

My First Attempt
I decided to start simple with Strawberry Orange Mint Pops. Sounded refreshing, right? The recipe was from some “Fresh Families” thing. Basically, I just had to blend some strawberries, orange juice, and a bit of mint. Easy peasy. Then, pour that mix into popsicle molds and freeze them. The waiting was the hardest part, but boy, were they worth it! They tasted like summer in a bite.
Getting a Bit Fancier
Feeling a bit more confident, I moved on to something a tad more complicated – Almond Cake with Chocolate. This one was from a “28 Day JOY of KOSHER Challenge” thing. I was like, “Challenge accepted!” Mixing the almond flour with the other stuff was a bit of a workout, but hey, who needs a gym when you’ve got baking, right?
-
Get the batter into the pan.
-
Bake it until it’s golden and smells amazing.
-
Let it cool. (Again with the waiting!)
-
Drizzle some melted parve chocolate on top.
And voila! It looked pretty fancy, if I do say so myself.

The Taste Test
The real test was, of course, the tasting. The pops were a hit, super refreshing and perfect for a hot day. The cake? Oh man, it was rich, chocolatey, and you wouldn’t even guess it was parve. My friends were all over it, asking for seconds and thirds. I even had to hide a piece for myself!
My Takeaway
So, what did I learn from this little baking escapade? Parve desserts are not just a substitute; they can be the star of the show! It’s all about getting the right recipe and not being afraid to get your hands dirty. I’m already thinking about what to bake next. Maybe some cookies? Or a pie? The possibilities are endless!
If any of you have some awesome parve dessert recipes, hit me up! I’m always up for a new baking challenge. And remember, cooking is all about having fun and enjoying the process (and the eating, of course!).
