Okay, so I’ve been seeing these pocket sandwiches everywhere lately, and I finally decided to give them a shot. I mean, who doesn’t love a good sandwich? But these are like, next level because everything’s all tucked in and tidy. No more messy fillings falling out!
First things first, I gathered my ingredients. I’m a simple guy, so I went with some classics:

- Sliced bread (I used regular white bread, but you can use whatever)
- Ham (because, duh)
- Cheese (cheddar, because it melts nicely)
- Some lettuce and tomato for a bit of freshness
- Mayonnaise and mustard, to add a bit flavour.
I have to be honest, my first try was a total disaster. Then I tried the second time, it’s not perfect, but it’s totally edible, I would say.I laid out two slices of bread and spread some mayo on one and mustard on the other. I think, maybe I put too much filling? Let me try again.
So, attempt number two. This time, I was a bit more careful. I used a rolling pin to flatten the bread slices a little bit, just a gentle press, make them a bit *, I layered my ham, cheese, lettuce, and tomato on one slice, being careful not to overfill it. The key here is to leave a border around the edges.
Then, placed the other slice of bread on top and used a large glass (a wide-mouth one) to cut out a circle, pressing down firmly. I thought about it, maybe use a smaller glass next time. After cutting, I can get a sealed pocket! The glass kind of crimped the edges together.
And, you know what? It worked! It wasn’t perfect, a little bit of filling still stuck, but it was way better than the first time. I toasted it in a dry pan for a couple of minutes on each side, just until the bread was golden and the cheese was melted. I watched some cooking video, they said no need to put oil, so I did not.
The Result
The final pocket sandwich was warm, cheesy, and delicious. And the best part? I could eat it without making a mess! It’s not as pretty as the ones I saw online, but hey, it tasted good, and that’s all that matters. Definitely going to be making these again, maybe with different fillings next time. I’m thinking turkey and Swiss, or maybe even a breakfast version with egg and bacon!
