Alright, let’s talk about them Hungarian hot peppers. You know, the ones that look all shiny and pretty but can make your mouth feel like it’s on fire? Yeah, those. I ain’t no fancy cook or nothin’, but I know a thing or two about how to make them taste good.

Quick & Easy Hungarian Hot Peppers Recipes for Everyone

First off, you gotta know what kind you got. Some are hotter than a pistol, others just give you a little kick. The hot wax peppers, those are the ones I use most. They ain’t too bad, ya know? Not like those little devil peppers that make you sweat and cry.

Now, the easiest way to eat ’em? Just slice ’em up and eat ’em raw with some salt. That’s what I do. Some folks like to put ’em on bread with salami. That’s good too, I reckon. Just crunch, crunch, crunch, and you got yourself a snack. It’s like the old people say, raw peppers with salt is the best way. They say it makes your blood strong or somethin’. Can’t hurt, I guess.

  • Snack Time: Just slice them peppers, put some salt on them and chomp away. Good with bread and meat, too.
  • Pickled Peppers: Now, if you wanna keep them peppers for a while, you gotta pickle ’em. I ain’t got no fancy recipe, but I just boil some vinegar, water, sugar, and salt, then pour it over the peppers in a jar. Let ’em sit for a few weeks, and they get all tangy and good. You can add garlic and dill, too, if you like. I always add a bit of garlic, makes everything taste better.

But there’s more to peppers than just eating them raw or pickled. You can cook with them too. Stuffed peppers are real nice. You take the peppers, cut ’em in half, scoop out the seeds, and fill ’em with whatever you got. I like to use rice, meat, and some other vegetables. Then you bake ’em in the oven until they’re soft and the filling is cooked through. It’s a good way to use up leftovers, ya know?

And don’t forget about chili! If you got a whole bunch of peppers, you can make a big pot of chili. Just chop up the peppers, onions, garlic, and whatever else you like, and throw it in a pot with some meat and beans. Let it simmer for a few hours, and you got yourself a meal that’ll warm you up from the inside out. I add tomatoes too, and sometimes a little bit of beer, makes it extra tasty.

I heard somewhere that these peppers are good for you, too. Something about vitamins. I don’t know about all that fancy talk, but I figure if it tastes good and it grows in the garden, it can’t be all bad. And they say it helps with keepin’ your weight down. Well, that’s a good thing, ain’t it? We all could use a little help in that department, specially after all them holiday meals.

You can also dry them peppers. String them up and hang them in a dry place. Once they dry out you can grind them into chili powder. That’s how my grandma used to do it. She always had dried peppers hanging in the kitchen. Said it kept the bad spirits away. Maybe it did, maybe it didn’t, but it sure made the food taste good.

If you end up with too many peppers, there’s a whole heap of things you can do with ‘em. You can freeze ‘em, make hot sauce, chili jam, salsa, guacamole, and even chili poppers. There’s all sorts of stuff you can do. Just use your imagination, and don’t be afraid to experiment a little. Worst thing that can happen is you don’t like it, then you know better next time.

So, there you have it. A few simple ways to use Hungarian hot peppers. Ain’t nothin’ fancy, just good ol’ home cooking. Now go on and try it yourself. And don’t be scared of a little heat. It’ll put some hair on your chest, as they say.
