Okay, so I’ve been meaning to try out this place, Red 8 in Saratoga Springs, for ages. Everyone keeps talking about their Asian and Japanese food, so I figured, why not? Today was the day!
Getting Started
First things first, I checked to make a reservation. No need as It’s first come first served.
So I just showed up. The place looked pretty cool from the outside. Inside, it had a nice, modern vibe. Not too fancy, but definitely not a hole in the wall either. It had that “I’m trying to be upscale but still comfy” feel.
Diving into the Menu
The menu was pretty extensive. Lots of choices, which can be a little overwhelming, you know? But I kinda like having options. They had all the usual suspects – sushi, teriyaki, noodles, the works. They also had some dishes I hadn’t seen before, which was intriguing.
- Sushi: Tons of rolls, from basic California rolls to some crazy-looking specialty ones.
- Noodles: Ramen, udon, soba… you name it, they had it.
- Entrees: Stuff like General Tso’s chicken, Mongolian beef, teriyaki salmon – a good mix of familiar and maybe-not-so-familiar stuff.
The Ordering Process
I decided to go with a mix of things. I figured, you gotta sample a little bit of everything, right?
I flagged down a server – they were pretty busy, but I got their attention eventually. I started rattling off my order: a spicy tuna roll, some pork gyoza (because who doesn’t love dumplings?), and the chicken teriyaki. My thought, I want to try the basics that are pretty common.
The Food Arrives!
The wait wasn’t too bad. The gyoza came out first – perfectly crispy and piping hot. The dipping sauce was tasty, too. Then came the spicy tuna roll. It looked pretty good, and it tasted… pretty good. Fresh, but nothing mind-blowing.
Finally, the chicken teriyaki arrived. It was a decent-sized portion, with rice and some steamed veggies. The chicken was tender, and the sauce was sweet and savory, just like it should be. Overall, a solid dish. No major problems, but also no huge “wow” factor, you know?
Final Thoughts
So, was Red 8 worth the hype? It was… decent. The food was good, the service was okay, and the atmosphere was pleasant. I wouldn’t say it’s the best Asian food I’ve ever had, but it was definitely a satisfying meal. I might go back if I’m in the area and craving some Asian cuisine, but I wouldn’t necessarily go out of my way. It’s a solid choice, but not a life-changing culinary experience, if you get what I mean.

My practical experience is done sharing, and there is nothing left unsaid!
