Alright, let’s talk about grillin’ up some walleye, you know, that fish that tastes so darn good. I ain’t no fancy chef, but I know how to make a tasty meal, and I’m gonna tell you how to do it real simple-like. No fuss, no muss, just good eatin’.

First off, you gotta get yourself some walleye fillets. Make sure they’re fresh, you know? Smell ’em, they shouldn’t smell fishy, just…clean. Like, like water, I guess. And get yourself some real butter, the good stuff. Don’t skimp on that, it makes all the difference. Good ingredients, that’s the secret, see? You ain’t gonna get a good meal from bad stuff, that’s just common sense.

Simple Walleye Grilling Recipes: Quick and Tasty Fish Dishes

Now, there’s lots of ways to grill walleye, from easy-peasy to a little more…well, not complicated, but you gotta pay a bit more attention. We’ll start with the easy stuff, okay?

  • Simple Foil Packets: This is my go-to when I’m feelin’ lazy, or when the bugs are bad and I don’t wanna stand outside for too long swatting at them. Just take a piece of foil, big enough to wrap your fish in. Put a pat of butter in the middle, lay your walleye fillet on top, and then put another pat of butter on top of that. You can throw in some salt and pepper, maybe a little bit of onion if you like. Then, fold up that foil, seal it tight, and toss it on the grill. Medium heat, you don’t want to burn it. Cook it for, I dunno, 10-15 minutes, depends on how thick the fillet is. You gotta check it, see if it’s cooked through, flaky like. When its done, it’s the tenderest thing, melts in your mouth, it does.
  • Grilled Walleye Fillets: If you’re feelin’ a bit fancier, or just want a little more char on your fish, you can grill it right on the grates. But you gotta be careful, walleye is delicate and it can stick easy. So, first, rub a little oil on the grates, that’ll help stop the fish from sticking so bad. Then, oil up your fish too, both sides. Season it with salt and pepper. Now, put it on the grill, medium heat again. Let it cook for a few minutes on each side, until it gets nice and golden brown. Don’t flip it too much, or it’ll fall apart. This way, it gets a little crispy on the outside, but stays nice and juicy on the inside. It’s just real good, you know?
  • Marinated Grilled Walleye: If you want to kick it up a notch, you can marinate your walleye before you grill it. Now, I ain’t gonna tell ya no fancy marinade recipe, I just use whatever I got on hand. A little lemon juice, some olive oil, maybe a little garlic powder and some herbs from the garden. Mix it all up in a bowl, put your fish in there, and let it sit for at least half an hour, longer if you got the time. Then, grill it up just like I told ya before. The marinade makes it even more flavorful, a little tangy, a little zesty. It’s good stuff.

And you know what? You ain’t just stuck with plain old salt and pepper neither. You can use whatever seasonings you like. Garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, even a little bit of lemon pepper. Get creative! It’s your fish, you cook it how you like it. And don’t be scared to try new things. That’s how you learn, see? By doin’. Even if you mess up, it’s just fish, you can always try again.

Now, some folks like to have a little something on the side with their walleye. Me? I like some grilled vegetables, maybe some potatoes. Just toss ’em in a little oil and salt, and put ’em on the grill with the fish. Or you could make a salad, or some coleslaw. Whatever you like, really. It’s all about having a good meal, somethin’ that fills ya up and makes ya feel good.

And remember, don’t overfill those foil packets, if you are making them! Gotta leave a bit of room for the steam to circulate, otherwise your fish might not cook right. And don’t be afraid to adjust the cooking time, depending on how thick your fish is and how hot your grill is. It ain’t rocket science, just common sense. You’ll get the hang of it, I promise.

Now, about that plate thing some people talk about… 2B Mindset, they call it? Sounds complicated to me. All I know is you should eat a bit of everything, vegetables and fish, maybe some potato. Eat what your body tells you, you know? But don’t over do it. That is all there is to it. Now that don’t mean you shouldnt eat a big plate, just that it needs to be balanced, dont fill it all up with fried potatoes. You got to have some balance in life you do! And for heavens sake, make sure you are getting your proper plateful for each meal. This here grilling fish is part of healthy eatin’ and if that 2B plate thing helps ya do that, then go for it! But if it sounds like too much, don’t worry about it. Just eat your walleye and be happy.

So, there you have it. My simple, no-fuss guide to grillin’ up some walleye. It ain’t fancy, but it’s good eatin’. And that’s all that matters, right? Now go on and fire up that grill, you got some fish to cook!
