Alright, so the other day I was thinking, “I gotta try making some Oregon desserts.” I’ve heard some good things, you know? So, I started digging around to see what’s popular out there.

First, I looked up some places in Portland ’cause that’s where all the buzz seems to be. Found a bunch of names like Sweet Touch, 1927 S’mores Company, The Pie Spot, and a few others. Seems like Portland’s got a pretty serious dessert scene going on. Who knew?

Then I stumbled upon some articles talking about these candy makers in Portland. Apparently, they’re doing some crazy stuff with chocolate and other sweets. One piece mentioned a coconut-almond chocolate pie with a chocolate cookie crust. Seriously, how good does that sound? It got me thinking about maybe trying to whip up something like that at home.

I also found this list of restaurants in Portland that supposedly have amazing desserts. Not just bakeries, but actual restaurants where you’d have dinner and then BAM – mind-blowing dessert. That’s my kind of place.

My Little Baking Adventure

So, I decided to start simple. I figured I’d try making a pie. I mean, how hard could it be, right? I found a recipe online that seemed easy enough – just a basic pie crust and some filling. I went to the grocery store, grabbed some flour, butter, sugar, and a bunch of fruit ’cause I wanted to make a mixed berry pie.

  • First, I made the crust. Mixed the flour, butter, and some sugar together, added a bit of water, and rolled it out. It was a bit messy, I’m not gonna lie. Flour everywhere. But I managed to get it into the pie dish without too much trouble.
  • Next, the filling. I washed the berries, mixed them with some sugar and a bit of cornstarch to thicken it up, and poured it into the crust. Then I put another layer of crust on top, crimped the edges, and popped it in the oven.

While it was baking, I cleaned up the mess I made. Seriously, baking is a messy business. But the smell coming from the oven was amazing. It filled the whole house with this sweet, fruity aroma. I couldn’t wait to try it.

After about an hour, I took the pie out of the oven. It looked pretty good, if I do say so myself. Golden brown crust, bubbling filling – it was a thing of beauty. I let it cool for a bit, then I cut myself a slice and took a bite.

And you know what? It was actually pretty good! The crust was flaky, the filling was sweet and tart, and it all just worked together. I was pretty proud of myself, not gonna lie. It wasn’t perfect, but for a first try, I think I did alright.

So, that’s my Oregon dessert adventure so far. I’m definitely gonna try making more stuff in the future. Maybe that coconut-almond chocolate pie next? Or maybe I’ll try to find some of those fancy desserts from the restaurants I read about. Who knows? The possibilities are endless!
