Okay, so this… this Finnish Long Drink thing, right? Sounds fancy, but it ain’t nothing but a mix of stuff, like when you throw together what’s left in the fridge.

First off, they got this gin. Now, I ain’t much for spirits, gives me a headache faster than a thunderstorm, but they say it’s in there. Gin. You know, that clear liquor stuff. Don’t ask me what it’s made of, grains or somethin’.
- Then, there’s this grapefruit soda. Sweet and kinda bitter, like some folks I know. You can buy it at the store, comes in bottles or cans. Fizzles up your nose if you ain’t careful.
- They also throw in grapefruit juice, the real stuff, they say. Squeeze it right from the fruit. Probably healthier than that soda, but still tart.
And what’s this? Club soda? Sounds fancy, but it’s just bubbly water. Like when you leave the tap runnin’ a bit too long. Makes things fizzy, I guess.
Some folks add lemon juice too. Just a squirt, they say. Makes it a little sour, cuts through the sweetness. Like how I add a pinch of vinegar to my soup.
Now, they mix all this together with ice. Ice, you know, frozen water. Keeps it cold. Gotta have it cold, especially on a hot day. Like lemonade, you wouldn’t drink it warm, would ya?
They put it in a tall glass, they call it a highball. Just a regular glass, far as I can tell. Nothing special about it. But it looks nice, I suppose. Fancy.

They say this drink came from Finland. Far away place, cold and snowy, I reckon. Don’t know much about Finland, but they sure got a funny way of mixing drinks.
Some folks say it’s like a hard seltzer. Another fancy name. Just means it’s got alcohol and bubbles, far as I can tell. Like a beer, but sweeter.
Now, they got this new one, no sugar. Guess some folks are worried about their waistlines. Me? I never bothered with that nonsense. Eat what you want, I say. Life’s too short to be counting calories.
They make it in Missouri now, they say. Not sure why. Probably cheaper than bringing it all the way from Finland. Same stuff, I bet. Just a different label.
The name? Lonkero. Sounds like a sneeze. They say it means long drink in Finnish. Makes sense, I guess. It is a long drink, tall glass and all.

So, there you have it. The Finnish Long Drink. Gin, grapefruit, bubbles, and ice. Not much to it, really. Just a mix of things. Like I said, like throwing together what’s left in the fridge.
You can make it yourself, if you want. Just get the stuff and mix it up. No need to go all the way to Finland or pay extra for a fancy can. Save your money, I say.
