Okay, so, Christmas is coming up, and I’ve been seeing those candy canes everywhere. I grabbed a bunch because, well, they’re cheap and cute. But then I thought, “What am I going to do with all these besides just eating them straight?” So I started to think about what desserts I could make with them.
First, I crushed a bunch of candy canes. It was kind of a pain, but I just put them in a bag and smashed them with a rolling pin. I tried the food processor at first, but they were not crushed evenly, it was such a mess to clean. Anyway, with the rolling pin method, there were some bigger chunks, but that’s okay.

Chocolate Peppermint Bark
I melted some chocolate, spread it out on some parchment paper, and sprinkled the crushed candy canes on top. Then I let it set in the fridge, and bam! Chocolate peppermint bark. It was so easy and looked really fancy.
- Melt chocolate.
- Spread on parchment paper.
- Sprinkle with crushed candy canes.
- Refrigerate until set.
Candy Cane Brownies
Then, I made some brownies. I just used a boxed mix because, let’s be honest, I’m not a professional baker. But I mixed in some of those crushed candy canes into the batter. After they baked, I sprinkled some more on top while they were still warm. It was not just tasty but also looked really festive with those red and white bits on top.
- Make brownie batter (boxed mix is fine!).
- Mix in crushed candy canes.
- Bake according to instructions.
- Sprinkle more crushed candy canes on top while warm.
Other Ideas
I didn’t get around to trying these yet, but I thought about making some cookies and adding the candy cane bits to them. Maybe some chocolate chip cookies with a minty twist? Or even some sugar cookies with candy cane pieces? The possibilities were really endless with these things.
I even thought about melting some white chocolate, dipping the ends of the candy canes in it, and then rolling them in sprinkles. They’d be like little edible stirrers for hot chocolate or coffee. Super cute, right?
Anyways, that’s what I did with my candy canes. It was a fun little project, and now I have a bunch of treats to enjoy during the holidays. Plus, my kitchen smelled like peppermint for the rest of the day, which was an added bonus!
