Alright, let’s talk about them dairy desserts, you know, the sweet stuff after supper. I ain’t no fancy cook, but I know what tastes good. And let me tell you, anything with milk and sugar in it is bound to be a winner.
First off, you got your ice cream. Now, that’s a real treat, especially on a hot day. You can get it in all sorts of flavors, strawberry, chocolate, vanilla, that fancy rocky road stuff… My grandkids, they love it. Me? I like plain ol’ vanilla. It’s real and honest, you know? Sometimes, I put a little bit of fruit on top, like them peaches I canned last summer. Makes it extra special, like.
Then there’s pudding. Oh, pudding. Takes me back to when I was a young’un. My mama used to make it from scratch, with real milk and eggs and everything. Nowadays, folks just buy them little cups at the store. They ain’t bad, but they ain’t the same. Chocolate pudding, vanilla pudding, banana pudding…it’s all good. I like to eat it warm, with a little bit of whipped cream on top. Makes it all creamy and dreamy.
- Milkshakes: Blend up some ice cream, milk, and maybe some fruit if you’re feeling fancy. Them young’uns go crazy for it.
- Custard: A bit like pudding, but thicker and richer. Real stick-to-your-ribs kinda dessert. Good for growing young’uns.
- Yogurt Parfaits: Layer some yogurt with granola and fruit. Makes you feel like you’re eatin’ healthy, even when you’re havin’ dessert.
But listen here, things ain’t always as good as they used to be. These companies, they’re always tryin’ to save a penny here and a penny there. They cut corners, you know? Sometimes, the stuff just ain’t as good as it used to be. Like that ice cream I bought last week? Tasted kinda…watery. Not enough cream in it, I reckon. It’s a darn shame, really. Makes a body miss the old days, when things were made with real stuff, you know?
I remember this one time, I tried to make a fancy dessert, somethin’ I saw on the TV. It was supposed to be some kind of…lemon ice. Sounded easy enough, but Lord, it was a mess. Too much lemon, not enough sugar, it was just tart and sour. The grandkids, they wouldn’t even touch it. Ended up throwing the whole thing out. Guess I’ll stick to my vanilla ice cream and pudding, thank you very much. At least I know how to make them right.

And you know what else is good? Those little cranberry tarts. A neighbor lady brought some over for the church social last year. They were so pretty, all red and shiny, and they tasted just as good as they looked. Sweet and tart, just the right balance. I gotta get that recipe from her one of these days. Maybe I’ll even try makin’ them myself.
Now, if you’re looking for something a bit richer, you can’t go wrong with brownies. Them chewy kind, with chocolate chips and everything. Oh, my. My grandson, he makes them sometimes, and they always disappear real fast. He says the secret is a little bit of corn syrup, keeps them moist, you know? He’s a smart boy, that one. Always learnin’ new tricks in that kitchen of his.
Anyways, that’s all I got to say about dairy desserts. They’re sweet, they’re tasty, and they make you feel good. Whether it’s ice cream, pudding, or somethin’ else entirely, there’s a dairy dessert for everyone. Just make sure it’s made with good stuff, you know? None of that watered-down, cheap nonsense. You deserve the best, that’s what I say.
So go on, treat yourself to a little somethin’ sweet. You earned it. And if you happen to have a scoop of that vanilla ice cream with some peaches, well, you just send some my way. I won’t say no.
