Hey everyone, today I want to talk about a fun little adventure I had trying to find and make some Oregon desserts. You know, I’ve always been curious about what makes Oregon’s sweet treats special, and recently, I got a chance to really dig into it.
So, first off, I started with some good old internet searching. I found out that Oregon has some pretty unique desserts, like saffron flavored ice cream and even foie gras chocolate – sounds wild, right? I also saw a bunch of lists of the best dessert places in Portland. Names like The Pie Spot, Snowy Village, and 1927 S’mores Company kept popping up, so I figured those must be worth checking out.

I decided to make a list of places to visit. It was a bit of a mix, some from Yelp, some from Google Maps. Places like Lauretta Jean’s, Pip’s Original Doughnuts & Chai, and Pix Patisserie seemed like good spots to hit. I mean, who can resist a good pie or a fancy pastry, right?
But it wasn’t just about eating out. I wanted to try making something myself. I learned that Marionberry Pie is a big deal in Oregon. Apparently, it’s like a comfort food for them. So, I thought, why not give it a go? I found a recipe online and gathered all the ingredients. Let me tell you, making a pie from scratch is no joke! It took some time, but the smell of fresh berries and buttery crust baking in the oven was amazing.
My Baking Adventure
- Getting the Berries: First, I had to find some good marionberries. Luckily, I found a local market that had them fresh.
- Making the Crust: This was the tricky part. I tried to follow the recipe closely, mixing flour, butter, and a bit of sugar. Rolling it out was a bit of a mess, but I managed.
- Putting It Together: I filled the crust with the berries, added some sugar and a bit of flour to thicken it up, and then covered it with another layer of crust.
- Baking Time: Into the oven it went. I kept an eye on it, and after about an hour, it was golden brown and bubbly.
The pie turned out pretty good, if I do say so myself. It was sweet, tart, and the crust was flaky. It felt great to make something that’s such a big part of Oregon’s dessert scene.
Besides the pie, I also wanted to try something a bit more fancy. I saw this thing called Budino at a place called Barbuzzo. It’s like a custard in a jar with a dark chocolate crust on top. I found a similar recipe and decided to give it a try. Making custard seemed a bit intimidating, but it was actually easier than the pie. The end result was this creamy, rich dessert with a nice chocolatey crunch. Pretty satisfying, I must say.
So, that was my little Oregon dessert adventure. I got to explore some cool dessert spots, tried my hand at baking a classic, and even made a fancy custard. It was a lot of fun, and I definitely recommend trying out some of these treats if you ever get the chance. Who knew Oregon had such a sweet side?
Alright, that’s all for now. Hope you enjoyed this little sweet journey. Catch you all later!
