Alright, let’s talk about this Lucy’s vegetarian dog food, the kind they say is good for your dog even if it ain’t got no meat. Now, I ain’t no fancy expert or nothin’, but I know a thing or two about feeding animals. We always had dogs on the farm, and they ate whatever we had, scraps and such. But this here food, it’s different, they say.

First off, they talk about where it’s made. Says it’s made in some place called California, in their own factory. That’s good, I reckon. Means they ain’t just buyin’ it from some other fella and slappin’ their name on it. And they say they get their stuff from all over the world, but not from China. That’s important, see? Heard too many stories about things comin’ from China that ain’t right.
Now, let’s get to what’s actually in this food. They call ‘em “ingredients,” sounds fancy, but it’s just what they put in it. It ain’t got no chicken or beef, no sir. It’s mostly plants. They got somethin’ called “yellow corn, soybean meal, corn protein concentrate”. Sounds like a whole lotta corn to me. Corn’s alright, I guess, we used to feed it to the chickens. But dogs? That’s new.
They also got these other things, long names I can’t even pronounce. “Phosphoric acid,” “pyrophosphate,” sounds like somethin’ you’d clean the toilet with! But I guess they know what they’re doin’. They also put in some “animal fats”, now that’s a bit confusing, ain’t it? Sayin’ it’s vegetarian but then puttin’ in animal fat. Maybe it’s just a little bit, for flavor or somethin’.
- They got “salt” in there too. Well, everyone likes a little salt, even the dogs I guess.
- And “taurine.” Heard that’s good for the heart, so that’s a good thing.
- Then there’s all them “vitamin supplements” – E, A, B12, D3. Vitamins, huh? Like the ones the doctor tells us to take. Guess dogs need ‘em too.
Someone told me they looked at this food and said it’s “plant-based” but they made sure to add that taurine stuff for the dog’s heart. Heart’s important, gotta keep that pumpin’. So even if it ain’t got meat, they’re tryin’ to make sure it’s still good for the dog.
Now, I ain’t fed this to my own dogs. Like I said, they eat what we eat. But I can see why some folks might want somethin’ like this. Maybe their dog can’t eat meat, or maybe they just feel better about feedin’ ‘em plants. It’s a changing world, I tell ya. Things ain’t like they used to be. We fed our dogs table scraps and they lived long healthy lives. But maybe this new way’s alright too.

I heard someone talkin’ about doin’ a proper “review” of this food. That means they’re gonna try it out and see what happens, see if their dog likes it and if it makes ‘em healthy. That’s smart, I reckon. Always best to see for yourself before you trust somethin’ new. They’re gonna look at the ingredients, like I did, and they’re gonna see how it affects their dog’s health. That’s the important part, ain’t it? A healthy dog is a happy dog.
So, this Lucy’s vegetarian dog food… it’s different, that’s for sure. It’s got a whole lotta plants and some other stuff I can’t pronounce. But if it keeps the dogs healthy and happy, then I guess it’s alright. Like I always say, a full belly and a waggin’ tail, that’s all that matters. And if plants can do that, then so be it.
