Okay, so I’ve been wanting to try out some new recipes, and since I’ve always been kinda curious about Michigan food, I decided to give that a shot. The title of today’s thing is “recipes from Michigan,” I searched online. Found some interesting stuff, but let me tell you, it was a bit of a journey.
First Try: Michigan Cherry Salad
Started off with something called a “Michigan Cherry Salad.” I mean, Michigan and cherries, it made sense, right? I grabbed some fresh cherries from a local farmer’s market – gotta support the locals! Then I followed the recipe I found, which involved mixing the cherries with some other stuff.

- Cherries, of course, the star of the show.
- Some greens, I think it was spinach and something else.
- A bit of cheese, crumbled up.
- A dressing that was kinda sweet and tangy.
Honestly, I messed up the dressing a bit, it was a tad too sweet. But overall, it was a pretty decent salad. It really gave me that fresh, summery vibe.
Next Up: Blueberry Pie
Then I moved on to a “Contest-Winning Fresh Blueberry Pie.” This one took a bit more work, making the crust from scratch and all. Blueberries are everywhere here, so that part was easy. Baking is not really my strong suit, so I was a little worried.
- Making the crust was a whole process.
- The filling was simple, just blueberries, sugar, and some other stuff.
- I got a little nervous the first time trying to make a pie.
- Getting it into the oven without making a mess… tricky.
- Baked it, but I definitely overdid it, the crust was darker than the photo.
But you know what? It actually tasted pretty good! I did the best I can. It’s a good memory for me.
Easy Mode: Grilled Sweet Corn
After the pie, I wanted something simple, so I went for grilled sweet corn. Super easy. Just shucked the corn, brushed it with some butter and spices, and threw it on the grill. I love grilled food, so simple.
- Corn, easy to find around here.
- Butter, because everything’s better with butter.
- Some spices, I just used what I had in the cupboard.
- Grill it up, keep an eye on it, and done.
Can’t really mess that up, and it was delicious. Perfect side dish for a chill evening.
A little bit of history: Heritage Cheese Spread
I also stumbled upon something called “Heritage Cheese Spread” from a place called Win Schuler’s Restaurant in Marshall. Apparently, it’s a bit of a classic. I couldn’t find the exact recipe, but I tried to make something similar based on what I read.
- Some kind of sharp cheddar cheese.
- Cream cheese, to make it spreadable.
- Some spices and stuff, I kinda guessed here.
- Mixed it all up, tasted… interesting.
Not sure if I got it right, but it was fun to try. It made me realize how much food history is out there.

Wrap-up
So, that was my Michigan food adventure. Some hits, some misses, but a lot of fun. It really got me thinking about how food connects us to places and memories. I might not be the best cook, but I’m definitely going to keep exploring different cuisines. Maybe I’ll even try some more Michigan recipes in the future! Who knows. I will keep on recording my life with food.
