Okay, so I recently stumbled upon this whole “Utah soda” thing, and let me tell you, it’s wild. I mean, who would have thought adding stuff to your regular soda could be such a game-changer? So, I decided to dive in and try some of these crazy concoctions myself.
First off, I needed some basic supplies. Lots of ice, because these drinks are best served ice cold. Then, the soda, of course. I grabbed some Sprite, ’cause that seemed to be a popular base. Also got some different syrups, like cotton candy ’cause why not? And, gotta have the half-and-half, people say it’s the secret to making it creamy and dreamy.
My Experiment Begins
- The “Mean Chick”: This one’s supposed to be a mix of Sprite, cotton candy syrup, and half-and-half. I poured some Sprite over a cup full of ice, added a good squirt of the cotton candy syrup, and then a splash of half-and-half. To make it extra, I topped it with whipped cream, some sprinkles, and even stuck a couple of marshmallow Peeps on top. Looked crazy, tasted… surprisingly good! It was like a fizzy, creamy, cotton candy dream.
I messed up on the next one though.
- “Pink Cupcake” Fail: The idea here was a “baked goods taste.” I used Sprite again, but I think I got the measurements way wrong, it wasn’t the taste I wanted and it was terrible. I added too much ice, it was diluted. I need to find what went wrong and try again.
After that little mishap, I found out that there’s this place called Swig in Utah. Apparently, they’re the OGs of this whole dirty soda thing. Their menu has both Coke and Pepsi, which got me thinking, I gotta expand my soda horizons beyond just Sprite!
I also learned that these drinks are kinda like “mocktails,” but without the booze. You can add all sorts of fruit juices and stuff too. Man, the possibilities are endless! I’ve seen people use 16-ounce cups for these, but I feel like that’s a bit much for me. I’m sticking to smaller glasses for now.
So yeah, that’s my Utah soda journey so far. It’s been a fun, sugary ride. I’m definitely gonna keep experimenting and trying out new flavor combos. Maybe I’ll even come up with my own signature dirty soda. Who knows? Stay tuned, folks!
