Okay, let me tell you about my kitchen situation. It wasn’t bad, you know, things worked. But it just felt… cluttered. Visually cluttered. The kettle was a cheap white plastic thing I got years ago. The toaster was shiny chrome, always covered in fingerprints. Then the microwave, gosh, that beige box probably came with the house. Nothing matched, it just looked messy, even when it was clean.
I started thinking maybe I should try and make it look a bit nicer. Not like a magazine photo, just… better. More put together. So, I started looking around. First online, just scrolling through pictures. You see all these amazing kitchens, right? Some are super sleek, all stainless steel and black glass. Others are really colourful, like those retro fridges and mixers in pastel blue or pink.

Down the Rabbit Hole
Honestly, I got a bit lost. There’s so much stuff out there. And the prices! Some of these fancy toasters cost more than my first microwave ever did. I spent a few evenings just clicking, saving pictures, trying to figure out what I actually liked, not just what looked good in someone else’s perfect kitchen.
I even went to a couple of department stores. Wanted to actually see the things, touch them. You know how sometimes things look great online but feel really flimsy in your hands? Saw a lot of that. Found a beautiful kettle, lovely matte finish, but the lid felt like it would snap off after a week. No thanks.
It became this whole project I didn’t plan for. I was just trying to replace a dying kettle, really. But then you see the matching toaster, and then you think, well, maybe the coffee maker too?
Making a Choice (Finally)
In the end, I decided to keep it simple. I wasn’t going to rip out the whole kitchen. I just wanted things to look a bit more… calm. I focused on the countertop stuff first.
- The Kettle: I found one I really liked. It was a cream colour, kind of classic looking but not overly fancy. Metal body, felt solid.
- The Toaster: Guess what? They had a matching toaster. Same cream colour. Simple slots, basic functions. Good enough for me.
- The Coffee Maker: My old drip machine was still okay, but it was black plastic and kinda stood out. I held off on this one for a bit, then found a simple filter coffee machine in a similar off-white shade. Not a perfect match, but close enough.
I ordered the kettle and toaster first. When they arrived, I cleared off the counter, wiped everything down, and plugged them in. Took the old ones straight out to the recycling bin. Felt good.
How It Looks Now
You know what? It actually made a difference. Just having those few things in the same colour family just… settled things down. It looks tidier, less jarring. The cream colour is nice, warm. It’s not a showstopper kitchen, but it feels better to be in there now.
Do they work perfectly? Yeah, mostly. The kettle boils water, nice and quick. The toaster toasts bread. Maybe the slots are a bit standard, tricky for really thick slices, but it does the job. The coffee machine makes coffee just fine. They aren’t high-tech marvels, just decent appliances that happen to look nice together.

It wasn’t a huge expensive makeover. Just swapping out a few key things. The old beige microwave still sits there, humming away. Maybe that’s the next target. Or maybe I’ll just live with it. Feels like enough for now. It’s a bit more peaceful in the kitchen, and that’s worth something.
