So, I ended up checking out this place, Delhi Cafe Indian Cuisine & Bar the other day. Wasn’t really planning on Indian food, honestly. I was just wandering around after work, feeling kinda hungry, you know? Saw the sign, looked decent enough from the outside, thought, why not? Sometimes you just gotta try something different.
Getting Inside and Settling In
Walked in. It wasn’t super busy, which was nice. The vibe was… well, it tried to be both a cafe and a bar, like the name says. Dim lighting, some Indian decor bits hanging around, music playing softly – not too loud, thankfully. Found myself a table pretty easily. The seating was alright, nothing special but comfortable enough. It felt a bit like they weren’t sure if they wanted to be a chill restaurant or a place people actually hang out for drinks. Maybe both?
Figuring Out the Food
Got the menu. Standard Indian stuff mostly. Curries, tandoori things, naan bread, you know the drill. Took me a while to decide. I wasn’t feeling super adventurous, so I stuck to something familiar. Went for the Butter Chicken, because it’s hard to mess that up too badly, right? And ordered some Garlic Naan on the side. The person who took my order was quick, didn’t chat much, just got the job done. Fine by me, I wasn’t there to make friends.
What I Ate
The food came out reasonably fast. Looked pretty good.
- Butter Chicken: The sauce was creamy, definitely had that tomato and butter thing going on. Chicken pieces were okay, cooked through. It wasn’t the best Butter Chicken I’ve ever had, let’s be real. It lacked a bit of that deep flavour, tasted a bit… safe? Like they were holding back on the spices maybe. But it was decent enough, filled the hole.
- Garlic Naan: This was actually pretty good. Hot, fresh, good amount of garlic, nice and fluffy but also a bit crispy on the edges. Dipped it in the curry sauce, obviously. Can’t complain about the naan.
I didn’t try anything from the ‘bar’ side of things this time. Just had water. Maybe another time I’d see what their drinks are like, but I just needed to eat and head home. Felt like one of those days where you just want simple fuel, not a whole dining experience.
Final Thoughts
So, yeah. Delhi Cafe. It was… okay. Filled me up. The naan was the highlight, the curry was acceptable. The place itself is fine, clean enough, staff did their job. Would I rush back? Probably not. There’s a lot of other places to try, right? But if I was in the area again and really craving some basic Indian food without much fuss, maybe. It didn’t blow me away, but it didn’t ruin my evening either. Just one of those meals you have, you know? Gets the job done. Reminds me of this one time I tried to fix my own plumbing – it kinda worked, stopped the leak for a bit, but you knew it wasn’t a proper job. This felt a bit like that. Good enough for now.
