Hey everyone, it’s your boy back again with another outdoor adventure! This time, I was planning for some sweet treats for our camping trip. I knew we’d be tired after all that hiking and setting up camp, so I wanted something easy but still delicious. So I did what I always do when I need some new ideas: I went online to see what others are doing.
I was searching for camping dessert recipes and started gathering ideas. The first thing I did was make a list of what sounded good and didn’t look too complicated. I found a bunch of stuff, from classic s’mores to something called a Dutch oven cobbler. I was like, “Dutch oven? What’s that?” But it looked pretty cool, so I kept it on the list.

I also started to collect some recipes that I thought would be a hit with everyone. I saw one for a chocolate dump cake that looked super easy, and some ginger pound cake s’mores that sounded like a fun twist on the usual. Also found these campfire dessert cones that seemed like something the kids would love to make.
Then I started thinking about the logistics. I mean, we’re out in the woods, so it’s not like I could just whip out my stand mixer. I decided to focus on things we could make over the campfire or on a little portable grill. I realized we could make things like brownies or even cornbread if we wanted to. And then I thought, why not some breakfast muffins too? We could have those in the morning with our coffee.
The more I thought about it, the more excited I got. I started imagining us sitting around the fire, making these desserts, and just enjoying the moment. I remembered how much fun it is to cook outdoors, how everything just tastes better when you’re out in nature.
Then, I started to gather some other ingredients that I thought would be good to have on hand, like some brittle, toffee, and chocolates. I also thought about some pastries that wouldn’t go bad quickly, like sweet breads and meringue cookies. And you can’t forget about hand pies – those are always a crowd-pleaser.
Making the Desserts
- S’mores: This is a no-brainer. I got some graham crackers, marshmallows, and chocolate bars. We just roasted the marshmallows over the fire and sandwiched them with the chocolate between the crackers. Classic!
- Dutch Oven Cobbler: This was a bit of an experiment, but it turned out great. I brought a mix for the cobbler topping and some canned fruit. We put the fruit in the bottom of the Dutch oven, sprinkled the topping mix over it, and let it cook over the coals. It was like a warm, fruity pie.
- Chocolate Dump Cake: This one was as easy as it sounds. I mixed together a cake mix, some chocolate pudding, and a few other things in the Dutch oven. We let it bake on the coals, and it came out all gooey and delicious. Everyone thought I was a genius, but it was really just a simple recipe I found online.
- Campfire Cones: These were fun. We filled ice cream cones with marshmallows, chocolate chips, and other goodies, wrapped them in foil, and heated them over the fire. They came out like melty, sweet little packages of joy.
So, that’s how I turned our camping trip into a sweet, sweet memory. We tried a bunch of different things, some were hits, some were just okay, but it was all part of the fun. If you’re planning a camping trip soon, I hope this gives you some ideas. It’s not about being a master chef; it’s about enjoying the process and the company. And hey, who doesn’t love a good dessert, especially when you’re out in the wild? Until next time, happy trails and happy eating!
