So, today I’m going to talk about making this zero-ingredient long drink. I saw some people talking about it online, saying it’s like a Finnish thing, and I was like, “What the heck is that?” Sounds interesting, right?
I started digging around. Turns out, it’s usually made with gin and some kind of citrus soda, like grapefruit or lime. But here’s the kicker: I wanted to make it without any real ingredients, just flavors. Kind of a challenge, huh?

First thing I did was try to understand what makes this drink tick. People online were saying it’s refreshing and easy to drink. Some were saying the original had something to do with the government wanting a quick drink to serve to visitors. Sounds like a story, doesn’t it?
I did some experiments. I thought, “Okay, if it’s about the taste, let’s play with that.” I tried using sparkling water as a base to simulate the fizz. Then I played around with some flavors.
- The Base: I started with just plain sparkling water. It gives that bubbly feel, you know?
- The Flavor Game: I used a few drops of lime extract and a bit of juniper berry essence to mimic the gin taste.
- Sweetness: This was a tricky part. I didn’t want to add any sugar or sweeteners. So, I just left it as is. It’s zero-ingredient, remember?
- Mixing It Up: I mixed these in different amounts, tasting each time. It was like being a mad scientist, but with a drink instead of some weird potion.
My Little Experiment Steps:
After a bunch of tries, I got something that kind of resembled the idea of a long drink. It was fizzy, had a hint of lime, and that juniper berry thing going on. Was it exactly like the real thing? Probably not. But, hey, it was a fun experiment.
The whole point of this wasn’t to recreate the drink perfectly. It was more about the process, trying to make something out of nothing. Plus, I got to tell people I made a “zero-ingredient” drink. Sounds cool, right?
So, that’s my little adventure with the zero-ingredient long drink. It’s not something I’d make every day, but it sure was a fun way to kill an afternoon. And who knows, maybe I’ll try messing around with other drink ideas in the future. You never know what you might come up with when you’re just playing around in the kitchen!
