Okay, so lemme tell you about these beverage float things for the pool. Summer hit hard, right? And I love just chilling in the water. But man, holding my drink was a pain. Either I gotta balance it on the edge, hoping it doesn’t fall in, or I gotta keep getting out. Kinda ruins the whole relaxing vibe.
So I was wandering around some store, probably looking for pool noodles or something dumb, and I saw these little inflatable rings. Said they were for drinks. Looked kinda silly, like tiny pool floats. But hey, they were cheap, so I grabbed a pack. Think it had like, a flamingo, a donut, maybe a palm tree? Whatever, they looked fun.

Getting Them Ready
Got home, ripped open the package. Tiny little bits of plastic. First thought: gotta blow these things up. Ugh. Tried doing it by mouth. Bad idea. Got lightheaded after the first one. Felt like an idiot. Dug around in the garage and found that old air mattress pump. Way easier. Took like, two minutes to inflate the whole bunch.
Pool Time Test
Alright, moment of truth. Headed out to the pool, armed with my newly inflated drink buddies and a can of soda. Picked the donut float first – seemed sturdy enough. Placed the can in the middle. Gently set it in the water.
And… it floated! Pretty cool, actually. Just bobbing there next to me. No hands needed. Took a sip, put it back. Still floating. Awesome.
But here’s the thing: don’t get too crazy. Splashed around a bit, made some waves. The donut handled small ripples okay. But then my kid cannonballed nearby. Big wave. WHOOSH. Over went the donut float, soda glugging into the pool. Oops. Lesson learned: they’re good for chilling, not for water fights.
What Works, What Doesn’t
Tried different stuff in them over the next few days.
- Cans: Pretty stable. Best bet.
- Plastic bottles (like water bottles): Also decent, long as they aren’t too tall.
- Plastic cups: Kinda tippy. Especially those flimsy party cups. Gotta be careful.
- Anything glass: Nope. Just don’t. Asking for trouble.
Also found the simpler shapes, like the basic rings or the donut, seemed a bit more stable than the really tall ones like the flamingo. Maybe it’s just physics, I dunno. Lower center of gravity or something.
So, Yeah…
Now, whenever I’m just floating around, trying to beat the heat, I toss one or two of these in. Stick my can in there, floats right beside me. Super convenient. Yeah, they can tip if you’re not careful, and they’re kinda goofy looking. But for a few bucks, they solved my “where do I put my drink?” pool problem. Simple stuff, but makes relaxing in the water just that much better. Totally worth it if you spend any time just soaking in the pool.
