Whats in Dominican Spaghetti? Key Ingredients & Flavor Secrets!

Okay, folks, let’s dive into making some Dominican spaghetti! I’ve been craving this comfort food lately, so I figured I’d whip up a batch and share my process with you all.

First, I gathered all my ingredients. This is the key to making it a smooth process, you know? No running around the kitchen like a headless chicken later.

My Shopping List

  • Spaghetti (obviously!) – I used about a pound.
  • Salami – the Dominican kind, if you can find it! I got about a pound of that too, sliced.
  • Tomato sauce – I grabbed a big can, around 28 ounces.
  • Tomato paste – just a small can, about 6 ounces.
  • Onion – one medium-sized yellow onion, chopped.
  • Bell pepper – I used one green bell pepper, also chopped.
  • Garlic – because what’s cooking without garlic? I used about 4 cloves, minced.
  • Chicken bouillon cube – this adds that extra flavor, trust me.
  • Vegetable oil – for sautéing.
  • Salt and pepper – to taste, of course!
  • Cilantro
  • Olive oil
  • Red Pepper

Now, with everything prepped and ready, I started by boiling a big pot of water for the spaghetti. Once it was boiling, I added a generous pinch of salt and then tossed in the spaghetti. I cooked it according to the package directions, until it was al dente.

While the spaghetti was cooking, I heated up some vegetable oil in a large pan. Then, I threw in the sliced salami and cooked it until it was nicely browned and a little crispy. Once that was done, I removed the salami and set it aside.

Next, I added the chopped onion and bell pepper to the same pan and sautéed them until they were soft. Then I added the minced garlic and cooked it for about a minute, until it smelled amazing.

After that, I poured in the tomato sauce and tomato paste. I also crumbled in the chicken bouillon cube. I added some salt, pepper, cilantro,olive oil and red pepper, stirred everything together, and let it simmer for a bit, maybe 10-15 minutes, to let the flavors meld.

Once the spaghetti was cooked and drained, I added it to the sauce, along with the cooked salami. I tossed everything together until the spaghetti was well coated in that delicious sauce.

And that’s it! I served it up hot, and it was exactly what I was craving. Simple, flavorful, and super satisfying. It’s not fancy, but it’s definitely a dish that brings back good memories. Give it a try, and let me know what you think!
