Okay, so I’ve been craving Indian food lately, like, really craving it. And I live near Grand Rapids, so I figured there’s gotta be some good spots around here. I decided to make it a mission to find the best Indian cuisine in Grand Rapids.
My Search Begins
First, I jumped on my phone and started googling “Indian restaurants Grand Rapids”. A bunch of places popped up, some with names I recognized, others totally new.

I looked at some reviews, checked out their menus online – you know, the usual stuff. I wanted something authentic, not just the same old butter chicken and tikka masala (though I love those too!).
Exploring the Options
- I saw one place that had a huge menu with tons of South Indian dishes, which intrigued me. Dosas, idlis, vadas… the works!
- Another spot seemed more North Indian focused, with lots of tandoori options and rich curries.
- There were a few that looked like they tried to do a bit of everything.
The Taste Test
I decided to start with the South Indian place. I ordered a masala dosa, some idli sambar, and a mango lassi. Oh. My. Goodness.
The dosa was HUGE and crispy, the filling was perfectly spiced, and the sambar was so flavorful. The idlis were soft and fluffy, and the lassi was the perfect sweet and tangy balance.
Next, I hit up the North Indian restaurant. I went for the classic butter chicken, some garlic naan, and a side of saag paneer. Again, I was blown away.
The butter chicken was creamy and rich, the naan was soft and garlicky, and the saag paneer was perfectly seasoned. The portions were generous, too – I had leftovers for days!
Later That week I went with serveral of my friends to try the other places, they are all good, I am sure you will find the right one for you.
The Verdict
Honestly, Grand Rapids has some seriously good Indian food. I’m so glad I took the time to explore the different options. It’s tough to pick a favorite, because they were all so good in their own way. If you’re in the area and craving Indian, you definitely won’t be disappointed!

I’ll definitely be going back to both of these places, and I’m excited to try even more Indian restaurants in Grand Rapids. My food journey continues!
