Okay, so today I was checking out the New York Times crossword, and there was this clue: “Yogurt-based beverage.” It got me thinking, I should really try making one of these myself.
First off, I scrolled through the crossword, trying to figure out what this drink could be. I mean, yogurt in a drink? Sounds a bit weird, but hey, why not give it a shot?

Then, I hit up the internet, looking for any hints or solutions for this crossword clue. I found a bunch of different sites talking about it, all buzzing about possible answers. Apparently, this clue has been in the NYT puzzle before, like on August 18, 2024. Who knew?
After some digging, I stumbled upon this one answer that kept popping up: “lassi.” It’s supposed to be some kind of traditional Indian drink. My mind was blown. I always thought of yogurt as something you eat with a spoon, not drink through a straw!
This whole thing sparked my curiosity. I decided I had to make a lassi myself. I mean, how hard could it be, right? Yogurt, some other stuff, blend it up, and boom, you’ve got a drink.
So, I gathered all the ingredients I could find based on some quick recipes I found online. Basically, just plain yogurt, some water, a bit of sugar, and some ice. I even threw in some mango because I saw a recipe for mango lassi, and that sounded delicious.
Next, I dumped everything into my blender. I pressed the button, and watched as the mixture turned into this creamy, frothy drink. It actually looked pretty good!
The Taste Test
I poured some into a glass, took a deep breath, and took a sip. And you know what? It wasn’t bad at all! It was kind of like a smoothie, but tangier. The mango one was especially tasty. I definitely see why people like these lassi things.
In the end, I was pretty proud of myself for figuring out the crossword clue and for making my own lassi. It was a fun little experiment, and I ended up with a tasty drink. Who would have thought a crossword puzzle could lead to a culinary adventure?

- Learned something new about yogurt-based drinks.
- Made my own lassi.
- Enjoyed a tasty and refreshing beverage.
I might even try making different flavors next time. Maybe a strawberry lassi? Or something with spices? The possibilities are endless!
